As part of the South African Tour, CAFF seeks to shed light on what happened in South Africa during the apartheid period to further understand current conflicts worldwide. In ROADMAP TO APARTHEID, first-time directors Ana Nogueira and Eron Davidson take a close look at the apartheid analogy commonly used to describe the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. Narrated by Alice Walker (author of The Colour Purple), the film traces the rise and fall of apartheid in South Africa, as it shows why many Palestinians feel they are living in an apartheid system today, and why an increasing number of people around the world agree with them.
We are delighted to welcome David Africa and Dr Ruba Salih to host a Q&A following the screening. David was a liberation movement activist in 1980s South Africa, holding leadership positions in student and youth political organisations. He has commented on South African politics, international security and Israel’s occupation in Al Jazeera Online, The Mail & Guardian and South Africa radio and television. Dr Ruba Salih is a Member of the Centre for Palestine Studies and Reader of Gender Studies in SOAS, University of London, with extensive academic work on Palestine.
