Tickets: £6 adv (exc. booking fee) /£8 on the door. Book soon as space is limitted! Click HERE.
Doors open at 8.30 PM. (Party starts at 9 PM) Minnjiaraby was founded by Abdoulaye Samb, a guitarist, singer and composer from Senegal, now based in London. His original music is inspired by Fula and Mandinka cultures among many others. The name of the band means “love of mixing”, which expresses the richness of Senegalese traditions and ethnicities, the beauty of them coming together, as well as an open-minded approach to all cultures and people, local and global alike. The music has grown from Abdoulaye’s travels, collaborations and research in Africa and Europe and pays tribute to open minds and open hearts.
The Live Music will be preceded by an African fashion show. A message from Congolese model Lisette Mibo: “Hello everyone! I am Lisette Mibo, a model and founder of the annual showcase Passion For Motherland. This year, I am super excited to be apart of the 14th annual Cambridge African Film Festival, which takes place between 16th – 24th October 2015. Join me on Saturday 24th October as I host the closing fashion show to celebrate African culture and talents through fashion. Amazing designers with African inspired collection to showcase, alongside beautiful models from different backgrounds and cultures.”
Followed by Calabash DJ’s until 11.30 PM!
The Calabash collective is a small group of six local people - all lovers of African music and dancing. They host a free night at La Raza bar in Cambridge usually on the first Thursday of the month with DJs playing great dance music from across the African continent: from North African Rock and Rai, funky rhythms from the Horn of Africa to exuberant South African and Zimbabwean throw-your-arms-in-the-air songs, crazy Congolese and Central African beats, the best of West African sounds from Senegal, Mali, Ghana, Nigeria and everything in between … music to dance your socks off to!
