Audiences at the Arts Picturehouse in Cambridge yesterday, minutes before the screening of opening film ‘Timbuktu’, sold out. Photographer: Shameela Beeloo
The latest film by Mauritanian filmmaker Abderrahmane Sissako, Best Director of the 50th Chicago International Film Festival for ‘Timbuktu’ this year, which had opened Cannes this year, impressed the audiences of Cambridge too with a stunning photography and a powerful story which is not covered in the media.
The evening started with the screening of ‘Dankumba’, a tribute to young Malian filmmaker Bakary Diallo, who passed away in the Air Algérie Flight 5017 last July.
The day opened with the Seminar of Photography and Africa, with Javier Hirschfeld, who later gave a tour to officially open his exhibition at the Arts Picturehouse.

We are very grateful to our sponsors, partners, supporters, volunteers and audiences for this fantastic way of opening CAFF and we are looking forward to seeing you in many more events during the festival!
